A lifelong admirer of the great drummers such as Philly Joe Jones, Billy Higgins, Ed Blackwell, Roy Haynes and Elvin Jones, Chicago saxophonist/composer Jeff Chan explores a new dimension of his music, performing on the drumset in this ensemble. Chan is joined by guitarist J. Garza and contrabassist Peter Wojtowicz, performing standard repertoire from the Great American Songbook and original works by members of the band and leading figures from the jazz tradition.

Biographies

J. Garza is a Chicago-based guitarist and composer. He has been involved in projects covering a wide range of styles, including jazz / latin jazz, swing, indie rock, and others. Recently, he released Moab, a guitar trio album of original jazz compositions. Currently, he is preparing to return to the studio to record a new set of original songs as well as reinterpretations of popular music from the 80s and 90s. 

Peter Wojtowicz is a Chicago bassist. He performs frequently with the bluegrass group Bourbon Aristocracy, with jazz singer Lee-Ann Sharp, and with John Garza and Jacob Fawcett in the GFW Project. Past projects include Chicago area jambands, indie-rock, and hot club jazz ensembles. He lives in Uptown. 

Jeff Chan, Chicago multi-instrumentalist, composer and organizer, has worked with many of the city’s leading figures in Jazz and new/creative music, including Jimmy Ellis, Edward Wilkerson Jr., Mwata Bowden, Avreeayl Ra, Yoko Noge and Tatsu Aoki. He has recorded more than 15 recordings as a leader, sideman and producer, Chan has performed extensively in the Chicago area, across the nation and in Europe.
