OH Art Foundation presents “Mi(x)ing Zone – Voice Prisms.”This special exhibition is an immersive installation that asks how we can step into each other’s stories through the languages spoken at home. In many American households, especially those shaped by migration, daily life unfolds in voices other than English. This work uses real time generating AI translation to recompose multilingual phrases from Chicago childhood footage, spoken through machine generated voices and spatialized across a quadraphonic soundscape. Visitors navigate the space with an Xbox controller, moving between linguistic zones while shaping a generative ambient music system and controlling audio effects. Around them, video imagery is refracted through custom built disco balls, scattering fragments of light and memory throughout the room. The installation invites listening as a way of staying close to what cannot be fully understood. Translation becomes a linguistic bridge across differences. In this shared atmosphere of voice, light, and movement, the layered sounds of American cultural life speak in endless parallel, resonating not as one narrative but as many possibilities held together.
