3rd Annual Latinx Festival of the Arts
Positive Obsession
September 18th, 2026, 8pm
by Iván Camacho, LCSW between 8pm- 9pm
3314 S Morgan st Chicago - Storefront Gallery
As our planet and people are exploited by governments and wealthy oligarchs, we can feel pushed to impulsively react or completely give up. Building lasting solidarity requires each of us to develop steady commitment to using our particular strengths in service of our shared values. Participants in this therapeutic workshop led by a licensed clinical social worker will read a poem by Octavia E. Butler, meditate on an experience of a “positive obsession,” create visual art based on the meditation, and discuss how we can use these positive obsessions to do what is ours to do for collective liberation.

About the Facilitator:
Iván Camacho, LCSW is a healer: aka, a nerd, artist, & friend.
From a long line of Jesus-loving nerds in México, he seeks to “Become a partner of God,” as Octavia E. Butler puts it, by responding to and shaping Change, as well as through the erotic nature of mystical experience. Raised in Southern California, but working very hard to become “from” Chicago, they have facilitated art therapy groups in Chicago since Spring 2023. Iván's visual art has been featured in CORK’s Phenomena, and his poetry has been featured in The Words Faire’s MICROSCOPIC: A Short-Forms Print Collection.
