Have you ever wondered how children on the autism spectrum perceive the world? Imagine gaining a glimpse into their unique perspectives!
OH Art Foundation proudly presents a photography exhibition curated by Michelle Lee, “Spectrum Photography: Through Their Eyes,” featuring captivating photographs taken by children with autism during the “Spectrum Sailing” week. Spectrum Sailing is a 3-day free sailing camp specially designed for the children (age 10-17) on the spectrum. During this extraordinary event, children on the spectrum learned about different aspects of sailing, including the parts of the boat, water safety rules, knotting, wind reading, and boat maneuvering. The camp offered them the opportunity to try something new while enjoying the breathtaking scenery of the lake. Parents have expressed overwhelming positive feedback about the camp. Building on the success of the Spectrum Sailing, OH Art Foundation invited the children to share their distinctive perspectives through the medium of photography.
“Spectrum Photography: Through Their Eyes” showcases photographs captured by five young photographers. Some of them already possess photography experience, as they find visual language to be a comfortable means of connecting with the world. Others have embarked on their first photographic journey. Regardless of their prior experience, each child brings their own unique perspective, voice, and story to share.
Victoria Boateng, an Autism advocate and drum instructor, joined us on the opening night performing djembe!
