Translated Landscape
Oh Art Foundation presents Juliann Wang's solo exhibition, Translated Landscape.
Translated Landscape is created using a unique interpretive method of ink-water color
painting on paper. These works trace influence from Taoist philosophy and spirituality,
seeking to express dialog between perceptions of nature, the origin of life, and balance
of human experience. Exploring perception through the rich cultural inheritance and
artistic expression of the medium, it bridges gestures of bi-cultural expression through
innovative modern artistic interpretation. These segments of time-based work on paper,
made while looking at ancient landscapes, capture a unique relationship with organic
and intentionally delicate materials and processes in relation to today’s fast-paced
manufactured world.
Juliann Wang is a Chicago-based interdisciplinary artist, working in visual art, sound,
performance, and dance practice. Her work focuses on the capacity to evoke a coherent
vision of communication, harmony, and meditative contemplation. Inspired by the
fundamental rhythms of nature and the beauty of existence as a metaphor to impart
balance, her practice draws on a contemporary approach to meet joy in the
emptiness, evoking meaningful cycles of contemplation and renewal. She has been
actively creating and sharing her practice through exhibition, workshops, community
engagement, lectures, events, etc.
Her visual work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, with performance
work presented throughout Chicagoland and beyond. Juliann’s sound projects have been
featured in the “Harris Theater Fest: Music + Dance in the Park” at Millennium Park 2023,
as a performer/presenter for New Music Chicago’s 2023 “Impromptu Fest”. She received
an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, BFA from Lesley University, was
a DCASE IAP Grant award recipient in 2021 + 2022, and recipient of the The Creative
Accelerator Award from the Illinois Arts Council 2025.
